When a heat pump makes sense
A heat pump isn’t the answer for every house, but it’s worth comparing when:
- Both your furnace and air conditioner are aging, and one system could replace both.
- You want cooling in a home that has only ever had heat.
- You’re moving away from gas for heating as part of a remodel or electrification plan.
- Your current heat pump is struggling — weak heat, icing that doesn’t clear, or constant running.
- You’re adding space, like an addition or ADU, that needs its own heating and cooling.
What a heat pump installation includes
The details depend on whether the system is ducted, ductless or a mix. A typical installation covers:
- Outdoor heat pump unit placed and mounted with access for service
- Matched indoor air handler, coil or ductless heads
- Refrigerant lines connected, pressure-tested and leak-checked
- Electrical circuit and disconnect sized for the new equipment
- Condensate drainage for the indoor equipment
- Thermostat or controls set up for heating and cooling
- Start-up and operating check in both heating and cooling
Your written estimate lists exactly what your project includes.

Heat pump installation questions
Do heat pumps work well on the Peninsula?
The Peninsula’s mild climate is well suited to heat pumps, which work by moving heat rather than burning fuel. We’ll look at your house and tell you plainly whether one fits.
Can I keep my existing ductwork?
Often, but not always. A heat pump may need different airflow than your old system. We check the ducts on site and tell you what, if anything, needs to change.
Do I need an electrical upgrade?
Some homes do and some don’t. It depends on your panel and the system you choose. We’ll check it during the estimate.
Do you service heat pumps you didn’t install?
Yes. We service all major brands.
What warranty comes with a new heat pump?
10-year parts warranty and up to 10-year labor warranty on the majority of equipment we install.
